What is PPM ?
Precision Property Measurements (PPM) is a full service on-site measuring and CAD drafting firm, specializing in the creation of “As-Built” architectural floor plans and site plans, which depict the current dimensions and state of a building or site.
Since our founding in 2002, we have measured over 5,000 properties and buildings of all sizes and types, from small residences to commercial high-rises, retail centers and apartment complexes.
PPM creates As-Built plans for anyone in need of real property dimensions and data, including architects, designers, and commercial property managers.
Our proven As-Built production system combines precise laser measuring and CAD technology, highly trained staff, and tight standards and controls to ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency on every plan. Most importantly, we want to build long-term relationships with our clients, so we emphasize attentive, personal service. We realize that every project is unique, so we listen to our clients and pay attention to details so that every plan is exactly as promised. If it’s not, we’ll fix it.
Company History
PPM was founded in Huntington Beach, California in January of 2002. Our founder, Derek Caldwell, first became interested in property measuring in college, when he would create as-built site plans for his mother, a landscape architect. She urged Derek to pursue the trade for one simple reason: She hated doing it herself! Derek soon learned that his mother was not alone in this sentiment – most creative design people that he met understood how critical it was to have accurate As-Built plans for their projects, they just didn’t want to spend their time creating them. To add to the frustration, many designers weren’t very good at measuring anyways and would often settle for inaccurate plans after numerous attempts to find their mistakes. PPM was born.
In 2003 Derek was joined in the business by Andy McFarland, a lifelong friend. The two had always shared a love of math and working with numbers, and found that creating As-Builts provided a perfect venue to practice their craft. They set out to create measuring and drafting systems that would minimize the probability of plan errors through mathematical best practices. To this day, it is this adherence to systems which is the strength of PPM’s As-Built process.
PPM moved to Long Beach in the summer of 2004. In December of 2005, Derek left PPM to pursue other life interests. Andy still serves as PPM’s President, along with a highly trained staff of measurers, drafters, and customer service representatives.
